THE SUMMER 2001 ISSUE (VOLUME XIII - NUMBER 2)
OF THE RED NOSE REVIEW.
SQUADRON-235
The Death Angels. We are a
small band of Marines all of whom served in one
or more of the following Marine Corps Aviation
Squadrons: VMSB-235, VMF-235, VMF(AW)-235,
VMFA-235. Our members, while in these squadrons,
flew, crewed or serviced & maintained the
SDB, F4U, F9F, FJ, F8, F4, or FA18 aircraft
during the period from 01 JAN 1943 to 14 JUN
1996.
We are an "At Large"
Squadron of the Marine Corps Aviation
Association and we gather each year in
conjunction with the MCAA Annual Symposium. Our
first reunion took place in Pensacola in 1989.
We continue to meet each fall at the site of the
MCAA Symposium.
HAVE YOU REGISTERED
FOR MCAA SAN DIEGO?
MCAA and the Squadrons have scheduled
programs that will be of interest to all. If you
have not attended one of these symposiums, you
have missed a good time. The recognition that is
bestowed upon our active duty Marines in
recognition of their superb contribution to our
Corps is a highlight of their career. It is only
made possible by our continued support. The
camaraderie of seeing old friends and meeting
new ones is beyond comparison. We really need
your support and look forward to your arrival.
Go ahead, call a friend, make your reservations
by using the enclosed form and meet them in the

INITIAL
Tri-Care for life has been announced. It will
take effect 1 October 2001. The prescription
drug portion takes effect 1 April 2001. Don't
miss out on this.
For those that have computers, please visit
our website at www.vmf235.com. It offers an
abundance of information concerning our
activities and Marine Corps Aviation in general.
Remember that if you have any photos that you
would like to share with us, please send them to
Tom O'Rorke. He manages our website and he will
gladly scan them and return the original to
you.
If you know a 235 Marine and you don't see
his or her name on the roster, would you please
clip the application and send it. You would do
them a great favor.
MCAA 2001 San Diego Town & Country
Hotel Hosted by The Marion Carl Squadron, 20 -
23 September 2001 - Make your reservations NOW.
Note Don't forget to save and use the
registration forms as you will not be receiving
a letter from MCAA this year. However, they are
in the Yellow Sheet and this issue of the Red
Nose Review.
Help wanted - Needed, urgently, squadron
members to submit recent gossip and pic's to the
Ed. Apply immediately. Thanks.
Buck Peck has informed us that Lands End
catalogue for July 2001 features a red tie with
white stars. Must have a 235 guy on staff.
DUES
Dues are what makes all of this possible. For
no more than a modest tip for dinner at the
local restaurant we created a WEB Page and the
Red Nose Review. We establish the Ready Room at
the MCAA Symposiums that all greatly enjoy. All
of us have doting memories of our tours in the
Squadron and I solicit you to send your dues so
we don't put this all in harms way. As of August
1, approximately 25% of our membership have
contributed. To those that paid, way to go, to
those that haven't, take a moment and send Jim
Strawn a check for $10. If you make it for $20,
you save next years stamp. May be your best
investment this year. Thanks, Semper Fi and Ride
Nunc.
Taps
Lt. Col. Tom Elser in California. He
was an F-8 Beaufort type in '64. Tom was our web
photo page manager and will be greatly
missed.
Col. Alfred F. (Little Mac) McCaleb in
Florida. He was the Squadron Maintenance Officer
during the F-8 era.
Col. George Collins in Hawaii. I had
the privilege of flying several times with this
Marine in the F-4. He was a solid stick and a
good Marine. The Editor
I received a letter from CWO-4 Don McIntire
USMC (Ret). It concerns the final flight of two
Marine Aviators who were called to active duty
on 18 September 1950 in VMF-235. They are
Col. Robert Karcher of Rockport,
Massachusetts and Col. John Lincoln of
Norton, Massachusetts. He informs me that it now
leaves 22 on the Squadron roster. Thanks Don
Our thought and prayers are with all the
families of our fellow Marines.
