Welcome to the First
Cyber Issue of the RNR. With this issue
Squadron-235 kicks off Y2K with a presence on
the world-wide web. The text of this entire
issue and of all future issues will be available
for your leisurely perusal on the newly created
site. As the headline proclaims, you may now
find our site at
http://www.vmf.235.com.
Our initial effort into
the world of web sites, html coding, cyber space
et al has been interesting and educational. As
you can observe from our primitive efforts, we
are still learning. The point of all of this is
that we could use someone who is knowledgeable
regarding the construction and maintenance of
web sites and has a bit of time to spare.
Contact Tom O'Rorke if you fit the description.
O'Rorke started the 235
site and he quickly engaged the help of Jim
Strawn. Tom Elser was brought aboard to handle
the Email Roster and the Roster page. For
beginners they have managed to turn out a
reasonably nice site. But if you have talent in
this area please contact us. We want to make it
better and you can help with contributions of
photos, sea stories and general information
about Marine friends. Contact Tom, Jim or Dick
via Email.

EXCUSE
OUR DELAY
With the completion of
another successful year capped off by a fine
turnout at our gathering in Pensacola,
Squadron-235 is now off and running (a bit
belatedly) in the new year. There have been
staff changes, necessitated by our Vice
President and Editor-in-Chief, Buck Peck,
placing himself in emeritus status. Buck's
gargantuan efforts were greatly appreciated and
will be sorely missed. The good news is, he will
continue to contribute when he and Hazel are not
cruising the globe.
Believe it or not, we
have been working on this first issue of the
year (the millennium starts next year) and while
unforeseen delays were encountered we are
pleased to finally get the Late Spring issue
on the street. We have been
fortunate in having the help of some of the
Squadrons more experienced officers and
staff. Namely Jim Strawn, Tom O'Rorke and Tom
Elser. All have contributed.
Everyone is looking
forward to a great year culminated by our
Washington gathering in
September.
Lest you forget. Our
officers & staff are:
Tom O'Rorke
President-for-Life
Hondo Ondrick
Vice President & Social
Chairman
Jim Strawn
Secretary/Treasurer
Vince Falzarano
Assistant Social Chairman
Tom Elser Email
Manager
All of us are reachable
via email, snail mail &
telephone.

WASHINGTON
2000 UPDATE
The Y2K Ready Room will
be the one used for the 1993 Washington
gathering. The Crystal Gateway Marriott's
Presidential Suite. Those with web access my
check the Schedule page of the Squadron-235 web
site for the latest in news from this
front.

E-MAIL
ROSTER UPGRADING
Those of you who are
web surfers will appreciate the Squadron 235 Web
Page (VMF235.com).
Among other things
readers will note that by clicking on "E-Mail"
they will see a listing of Death Angels and
their Email Addresses. You can click on the
email address and launch an email to a long lost
buddy.
In an effort to make
current email addresses available to email
users, we are asking members to visit the site
and add their own email address if it is not
currently listed. Also, if you note that any of
the addressees listed are in error, or know the
addresses of others that are not listed, please
click on the link provided in the first
paragraph to send your comments to the Email
Custodian. We will update the site as quickly as
we can.
We also have the entire
Squadron-235 roster on the web site. the
"Roster" page offers you a choice of two lists.
One of deceased members and one of active
members. Let us know if the information we have
on you is correct.
Squadron 235 is growing
and a network of potential contributors will
make it one of the best sites of its kind on the
web. Don't forget to "Book Mark" the site or
save it as a "Favorite Place."

PHOTOS
NEEDED NOW
If you have access to
the internet and have not clicked "Crusader" on
the Home Page, please do so. You will find the
page to be from the Death Angel Photo Album and
featuring, what else, the Crusader. We have
created a similar page for each of the aircraft
flown by the squadron. We now have complete
three-picture spreads for the Fury and the
Dauntless, Phantom, and Hornet as well as the
Crusader.
Pages for the other
birds are also up. The Corsair page features two
photographs and the Panther page only one. If
you have good photos (black & white or
color) please send them to Tom O'Rorke, 4548
Bayou Court, Orange Beach, AL 36561. They will
be scanned and returned. Better yet. If you have
already scanned your good photos, send them as
email attachments, preferably as gif or jpeg
files. Let us hear from you. We are in dire need
of your new photographs of aircraft and of
personnel.

SQUADRON-235's
WEB SITE TOUR
This article is
primarily for those readers with web access, but
hopefully it also will serve as another prod for
those who don't currently have such
access.
Arriving at the Home
Page you will find a brief welcome and an
explanation of our organization. There is also a
list of the aircraft flown by the squadron.
The Crusader in that
list is linked to a Photo Album page featuring
just that bird. A mouse click on Crusader will
take to you to the Crusader Photo Page in the
"Death Angle Photo Album". Each aircraft name
links to a page of its own with photos,
commentary and a brief description of the
aircraft. There is also a bar with the
aircraft's name on it followed by a plus (+)
sign. Clicking on this bar will take you to a
link providing more detailed information on that
particular bird. See PHOTOS NEEDED NOW in this
issue
In the upper left hand
corner of the home Page you will find a column
of other site options: Contacts
E-Mail History Log-In Red
Nose Review Roster Schedule
Snapshots Gunfighters MCAA
USMC.
The Contacts page lists
all of the officers and staff of the Squadron
and contains direct email links to each
one.
E-Mail is a listing of
all know members with email and their respective
email addresses. See EMAIL ROSTER UPGRADING this
issue.
Our History page is
just that. A history of the squadron covering
its entire 53 year life. It is fairly
comprehensive but missing specifics in several
areas. Please contact us if you have information
that will help us to refine the 235 story.
Log-In provides a page
where prospective members may fill in a form
submitting a membership application for the MCAA
and Squadron-235 as well. You may also contact
us through this page to send along updated or
corrected information on yourself. If you know
of Marines who should be on our rolls the Log-In
page is a quick and painless way to pass the
information on.
Red Nose Review will
feature all of the copy from the paper issue but
not in the same format. No photos are planned
for the RNR site page as several are available
in other locations throughout the web
site.
The Roster is a listing
of all know members. It is set up with three
pages. One page lists deceased members of the
squadron, a second lists living members for whom
we have addresses and the third is a roster of
those without good addresses. The individual's
name, era, aircraft flown and other
miscellaneous information is provided. No phone
numbers or addresses are given on the web
site.
Schedule lists the
location of all of our previous gatherings
beginning with the first in Pensacola in 1989.
It also shows the location of the future
scheduled MCAA Symposiums. In the coming months,
details on the upcoming Washington Symposium and
current Ready Room information will be found on
this page.
The Snapshots page
features a photo or photos of Squadron aviators
and other personnel. The photos will be changed
periodically. How often they are changed will
depend upon how well we are supplied with new
ones from our members.
Gunfighters is a link
to the F8 Crusader web site. MCAA is a link to
the MCAA web site. USMC is a link to the USMC
web site. We are also working to have some of
these sites provide links to
VMF235.COM.
Your input and
constructive criticism will be appreciated. That
applies to both the web site and to the Red Nose
Review. If you want to contribute copy for the
RNR please send it to Tom O'Rorke. With the
convenience and ease of use of email, it should
be an easy matter to gather some scuttlebutt
about or from fellow 235 Marines and pass it
along for dissemination in the Red Nose Review.

We have 76 (of about
160) members who have paid dues through 2000.
Payment of dues entitles you to a copy of the
thrice per year published Red Nose Review. The
RNR is filled with folklore, legend, fact and
fiction of our illustrious members; and
otherwise little known and generally useless
information interspersed, occasionally, with
things you really need and want to know. We also
provide a memorial contribution to the National
Museum of Naval Aviation to honor the memory of
a member when he/she makes his/her last Charley.
If you haven't made your year 2000 membership
payment, please do so soon.
BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL: Our
friends and cohorts at MCAA have agreed to allow
membership in the MCAA and in Squadron 235 for a
single low price of $30.00. This is $10.00 off
the usual going rate. To take advantage of this,
send your check payable to Squadron 235 to James
E. Strawn, Treasurer, 4633 Bruce Rd, Chester, Va
23831. I will update our roster and forward your
MCAA info and money to Quantico.
MCAA 2000 Ready Room:
You will note elsewhere in this publication that
we, once again, will have the finest
accommodations, the Presidential Suite, at the
forthcoming MCAA 2000 convention. In order to
provide our discriminating members the level of
service to which they have become accustomed,
Ready room fees will be levied as follows:
registration prior to 31 August 2000: $25.00;
registration after 31 August 2000, including on
site registration: $35.00. Please send your
checks (payable to Squadron 235) to James E.
Strawn, Treasurer, 4633 Bruce Rd, Chester, Va
23831. Note the Ready Room fee covers the
expense for you and one guest (spouse, friend,
SO, DIOTS, whatever)
Hope to see you in
September!!!! ---- jim
