The
SBD - Dauntless
The Douglas
Dauntless first entered service in 1939. When Japan
bombed Pearl Harbor the SBD was almost already obsolete.
The Dauntless was designed as a light bomber and
reconnaissance aircraft and served with the US Marine
Corps, the Army and the Navy, during WWII. Production
came to an end in 1944. Nearly 6,000 SBDs were built. The
Dauntless dive-bombers fought well throughout the Pacific
and were flown by several Marine Scouting and Bombing
Squadrons including VMSB-235.
This page contains
pictures of the SBD Dauntless only. One of the aircraft
flown by Squadron-235. Snapshots featuring people rather
than aircraft may be found on the Snapshots
Page.
